The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the launch of a new $ 18.9 million agribusiness development project that will foster private sector growth in agriculture and related sectors in Uzbekistan. This was reported at the US Embassy.
It is noted that the estimated period of implementation of the new program is five years. USAID's Agribusiness Development Program will be implemented in urban and rural areas of Uzbekistan, with the potential to focus on regional and international trading partners.
This project will build on previous USAID investments and achievements in this sector by increasing the quantity, quality and variety of agricultural goods and services produced by private enterprises in Uzbekistan.
“The project will support the private sector in Uzbekistan, allowing the country to create meaningful jobs in the formal economy for a growing workforce. These efforts will focus on increasing value-added production in Uzbekistan, engaging vulnerable groups, including youth and women, linking educational institutions with the needs of the private sector, and promoting an enabling environment for agriculture, ”the statement said.
